Geologic/Geotechnical/Environmental
Vertical Sciences, Inc., has a strong background in the geological, geotechnical, and environmental fields, both from a data acquisition and data reduction perspective. Having decades of experience in these fields, we understand your project needs and can work with you to acquire and process the information that you need. Here are a few descriptions of the services we provide:
- High-quality, data-rich resolution of rock mass quality characteristics of mine high walls, cut slopes, portals, and other rock-engineering sites where safe and complete data acquisition is problematic. Those data can be acquired quickly and used for evaluation of kinematic and limit-equilibrium rock slope stability, rock volume takeoffs, rockfall hazard estimates, and post-failure/post-disaster evaluations.
- Development of DEMs to assist in geomorphic analyses, evaluations of the locations and/or presence of geologic hazards such as landslides and faults, and comparative models between different time periods to develop difference maps to show precise amounts of movement between DEMs for purposes such as landslide movement monitoring, drainage thalweg migration, sea cliff retreat, etc.
- Use of multispectral instruments to evaluate changes in vegetative types or health to identify areas of springs, wetlands, etc. This can be very useful in landslide and fault evaluations, and in mapping natural resources for land development.
High resolution photogrammetry to provide individual digital and hard-copy stereo pairs, as mosaics, or as draped mosaics on DEMs that can be used for geologic, geotechnical, environmental and expert witness purposes. Those uses include evaluation of rock fall hazards, rock slope scaling effectiveness, post storm evaluations of slopes, prior geoenvironmental (hazardous materials) land uses; current geoenvironmental liabilities, such as chemical releases at facilities and grow sites; wildlife habitat mapping; wetlands delineations; etc.
